Blockhaus Bürgenstock

The “Blockhaus” house on Bürgenstock mountain, situated next to the imposing “Felsenweg” cliff path, was built in the 60s. In 2009, Monoplan was tasked with the restoration of this small holiday home. The concept had to do justice to the charm of the little house, and so was inspired by the building’s unique location on a steep, overhanging cliff face, with a view over Lake Lucerne. In consideration of the preservation order regulations, the window areas were enlarged, the layout optimised, the façade modernised and the balcony extended. This helped to create an architectural experience of light and space. The enlarged glass balcony over the cliff face provides a spectacular view over Lake Lucerne. A modest amount of modern furniture and materials give the Blockhaus a cosy and contemporary appearance.
